It's just not fair! Not to mention leaving poor Tobias all alone and broken. Yes, yes, I see the beauty of learning about sacrifice and love, but was it really necessary to kill her?!? I was so attached to her and then she is gone in a matter of seconds. Two of these deaths just killed me-pun intended. I know that there are dozens of deaths in this series, from fellow initiates to selfless family members. Just a fair warning, there are bound to be some spoilers in this post quite frankly, I am feeling too lazy to label them right now. Today I will lament over some of the fictional deaths that have affected me more than the deaths of some real people (does that make me a bad person?). Is it just to torment us? What have we done to deserve that? While there are some cases where you understand why the character had to die, many times we are left to question why the author would kill that person off. They tear us up inside and we are never the same without our beloved characters.

There are some literary deaths that shatter your heart and ruin your life. If you aren't grabbing your keys and heading off to the book store to buy this piece of perfection, you and I are no longer on speaking terms. I wish there was more, but all good things must come to an end. Ummm.I guess the only bad thing about this book is that Mitchell never wrote a sequel? Others have attempted to write the next installment of the story, but none live up to the original. That's one of the beautiful parts of this novel. I believe that is what Margaret Mitchell intended, but you can have a different interpretation. I like to believe that their tale ends happily, after many struggles that they have to overcome. That, my friend, is left up to you to decide. Yes, Scarlet discovers what she really wants in life, but we are never told if she ever achieves it. Unlike so many books that spell out 'they rode off into the sunset and had three children and a white picket fence and lived happily ever after,' Scarlet and Rhett's tale ends without a real conclusion. I could go on and on about how much I love this book, but I'll end with one final piece of perfection. In case you haven't figured it out, I love Rhett. No discussion of GWTW would be complete without talking about Rhett! You never know what is going on in his head, but you almost always like the results! He is sneaky and mysterious and caring a handsome and smart and perfect and I want to marry him. If I could live in any time period, it would definitely be the antebellum era. The shell of Atlanta rises again in a mass of patched dresses and half-burnt homes that is stronger than the original. The dresses, the accents, the plantations, the easy way of life-who wouldn't want that? Even after the war destroys the south, the spirit is still there. Starting in the enchanting antebellum era, the story draws you into a world that will never be known again. Yes, she is flawed, and prideful, and cruel at times, but her strength is always what drives her. She inspires me to be more outspoken and stand up for myself-because let's face it, no one else is going to. She is the original feminist, working when women were not permitted to work, doing what she had to do to provide for her family, making a name for herself, and shunning traditional roles. I kind of want to just leave it at that and let you discover why it is so perfect on your own, but I'm just going to nerd out about it anyway.ДЇirst and foremost: I adore Scarlet. Let me start off by saying, it's all good. There are so many reasons that I love this book, but I will focus on just a few for the sake of time. I own eight copies of the novel, including a first edition! That's right, you know you're jealous.

I swear I have read it two dozen times in the last eight years. This is one of my all-time favorite books.
